By now, you have probably seen the new Medicare reimbursement for cardiac rehab. The good news is that four new diagnoses have been added that increase the number of patients eligible for cardiac rehab.
New Indications for Cardiac Rehab
In addition to acute MI and coronary bypass surgery, CMS has added new indications that could increase your patient population by 25% or more:
- Stable angina pectoris
- Heart valve repair/replacement
- Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or coronary stenting
- Heart or heart-lung transplant

You need to actively reach out to your referring cardiologists and educate them on the new indications and the value of cardiac rehab. As a result, more patients will benefit from exercise, education and lifestyle changes and you will have a larger, financially healthy program. I have included a variety of materials in this letter to get you started.
